Beauty Rules at Bobbi Brown

In honour of her new book, Beauty Rules, Bobbi Brown hosted a special promotion at Holt Renfrew last week. It being a Saturday afternoon, and with plans for the evening, my roomie and I headed over to the Bloor Street location for a free make-up application and to check out what all the hype was about.

The book (Bobbi's sixth) is described as a "fresh and energetic beauty bible for young women" and that's exactly the message I got from the lovely lady making me over. I was given a simple make-up application for everyday where, much like how I do my own make-up really. Nothing too special, but exactly what I needed for day-to-day wear to make me look fresh and lovely.

The goal of the book is to help young women learn the beauty basics, while experimenting with their own look, to express personal style.

The promotion for the book included a free make-up application and a style sheet of all the products used. Bobbi's products are really beautiful, light and fresh. I didn't feel like I was wearing too much make-up and my skin felt great after the application. I particularly loved the daycream they applied before the make-up. Unfortunately my budget didn't allow me to walk away with all of the products I would have liked to, but some of them are definitely worth the splurge.

At the end of the session I had my photo taken and walked away with the photo's on a USB and my style sheet so I know exactly what products to buy the next time I'm at Bobbi Brown.

Panty Rant

I'm currently interning with a boutique publicity agency and a couple weeks ago I went to a clients store to get some background info for the press release I was writing. The store is a fine lingerie boutique, specializing in custom fittings and it got me thinking about how much I love lingerie.

Why would I put so much effort into my outfits and not give any thought to what I am wearing underneath. Not that I'm showing my panties to the world, but if I would be embarrassed to be seen in my underwear, than I wouldn't wear them. Now, I can't exactly be spending all my grocery money on underwear and as much as I love fine french lingerie, it's pretty pricey. However, there are a few places around this city where I've been able to find beautiful lingerie without the couture price tag.

The H & M at the Eaton Centre has the best lingerie section of all the locations in Toronto, with European styles. Change on Queen Street West (and East) has quality lingerie in lace, padded and wired styles and the prices are very reasonable. Plus the staff at Change will make sure you're in the right size.

With a bigger budget there are more choices.
Premier Jour Fine Lingerie in Corso Italia is a personal favourite. They have literally every size imaginable  and gorgeous styles, and as certified bra fitters they will make sure you walk out of there with the perfect bra. Other favourites include Secrets from your Sister at Bloor and Bathurst and Tryst with locations on Queen and Eglinton West.

If you're dressing up for the night put some thought into the lingerie you are wearing. Don't be embarrassed to get caught with your pants down.
